Carrier Strike Group THREE assigned to the “Big Stick.”

On May 20th, Carrier Strike Group THREE (CSG-3) received orders assigning the group to USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71).  CSG-3 is comprised of four squadrons of fighter-type aircraft:  VFA-14 Tophatters, VFA-86 Sidewinders, VFA-105 Gunslingers, and VF-103 Jolly Rogers.  With this assignment the group’s new home port will be NAS North Island, located in San Diego, California.  When they aren’t embarked aboard ship, the squadrons will call Foss Field at NAS Miramar home.  CSG-3 had recently been sidelined due to a rash of catapult malfunctions aboard the group’s previous carrier, USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74).  Undaunted, the squadrons of CSG-3 moved ashore to continue training operations until a new carrier should become available. 
The squadrons will soon converge on San Diego from their home fields all across the continental United States.  Sources close to the commander of CSG-3 state that the new assignment was welcomed, as the group will now have much easier access to the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR), where they have conducted training exercises in the past. 
Once the squadrons of CSG-3 have assembled in San Diego, they will begin training operations in the surrounding region.  The commander of NAS Miramar would like to thank local residents for their patience as the air group prepares to deploy aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt.  “Pardon our noise, it’s the sound of freedom!”
